SSGT Elmore Lawrence Hall was killed on 8 October 1969 when the EC-47 aircraft, callsign PRONG 33, on which he was serving as an Airborne Morse Systems Operator, caught fire and crashed in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam.

SSGT Hall was born on 18 December 1937 in Savannah, GA and graduated from Savannah High School.

SSGT Hall joined the Georgia Air National Guard on 20 February 1955, serving as a firefighter and administrative specialist. In November 1956, he was discharged from the Georgia Air National Guard and on 27 November 1956 enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He initially served as an administrative specialist at Malmstrom AFB, MT.

In July 1957, SSGT Hall completed the Radio Intercept Operator’s Course. SSGT Hall’s assignments as a Morse Systems Operator included the 6921st Security Wing, Misawa AB, Japan, 6910th Security Wing, Darmstadt, Germany, and the 6993rd Security Squadron, Kelly AFB. TX. On 16 September 1969, SSGT Hall was assigned to Det 1, 6994th Security Squadron, Nha Trang Air Base, Vietnam.

SSGT Hall’s awards and decorations include the Purple Heart (posthumously), Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

SSGT Hall is interred in plot 16-2, Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, SC. His name is engraved on the Vietnam Veteran Memorial Wall on Panel 17W, line 50.

The main avenue on Kelly AFB, TX in front of the Headquarters Building was renamed Hall Boulevard in SSGT Hall’s honor.
